KWASU has clarified that the recent one-year ban on Law program admissions imposed by JAMB will not affect current Law students, assuring that all enrolled students can continue their studies.

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has clarified that the recent one-year ban on admission to its law programs will not affect its current law students.

The Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin.

Dr. Aliyu explained that the ban was imposed because the Council for Legal Education (CLE) sanctioned KWASU for starting its law program in 2018 with approval only from the National Universities Commission (NUC). However, she assured that the university currently holds full accreditation from both the NUC and the CLE to offer two undergraduate law programs: Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.

She further stated, “Management wishes to state that the 1-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programs in the University’s Faculty of Law.” Dr. Aliyu emphasized that KWASU respects all regulatory bodies and will comply with CLE’s decision. As a result, the university will not offer admissions to the two law programs during the 2025/2026 academic session.

Dr. Aliyu also encouraged prospective students to consider other excellent programs offered by KWASU, which are fully accredited, saying, “Prospective candidates into these programs may apply to other equally excellent programs offered by KWASU as all programs in the institution have all the required accreditations.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had announced that it would not conduct admissions for the law program at KWASU and seven other universities. This decision follows the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program by the CLE for the 2025/2026 academic session at these institutions. Consequently, JAMB confirmed it would not approve any law program admissions at the affected universities for the upcoming session.
