Akwa Ibom CP Meets Youth Leaders, Industry Leaders

The Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, CP Baba Mohammed Azare held a crucial meeting with youth leaders from the 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state and captains of Industries in the state.
The engagement aimed at fostering peace, strengthening police-community relations, and discouraging unlawful activities among the youths.
During the meeting with the youths, the police commissioner urged them to embrace peace and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state.
CP Azare who stressed the importance of collaboration between the youths and the police command, enjoined them to provide timely and relevant information that will enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement operations.
He vehemently warned against jungle justice and road blockades as a means of protest, pointing out that such acts constitute a violation of the law.
The police boss made it clear that the Command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, advising the youths to always follow due process to report their grievances.
Also speaking at the parley, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Salawudeen Ishiaka advised the youth to steer clear of cultism and other unlawful activities. He enjoined them to work towards the development of their respective communities.
In his response, the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Udung Uko Chapter Mr. Oscar Ita commended the CP for his proactive approach to policing the state.
Ita promised he will disseminate the message to other youths and encourage them to work closely with the police in the fight against crime.
On his part, Comrade Emem Alexander Udo, NYCN Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, thanked the CP for convening the meeting, saying it was the first of its kind in the state.
He acknowledged that CP Azare’s efforts have reinforced the belief and saying that, “the police is your friend” going ahead to pledge full cooperation with the police to foster peace and security
In another development, CP Azare convened a separate meeting with Chief Executive Officers of companies and industries operating in the state to address the lingering tensions between the youth and business owners.
He expressed concerns in regards to the widening gap between companies and the local youth community, which has often led to violent confrontations.
The CP further solicited the cooperation of the business owners to create opportunities for youth engagement, including employment and educational initiatives, to promote lasting peace.
Azare went on to emphasize the need for a harmonious working relationship, mutual understanding and cooperation between the industries and the youth.
He equally advised that youths should be included in community-related meetings and encouraged businesses to actively involve them in company affairs where possible.
Furthermore, he cautioned against confrontational approaches, advising that all disputes should be reported to the police rather than escalating into violence. He assured the business community of enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of their operations.
Speaking on behalf of the companies and industries present, Mr. Johnson Ogbum, General Manager Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police for facilitating the dialogue.
He acknowledged the communication gap between companies and the youth and assured that moving forward, efforts would be made to engage them meaningfully.
He further pledged that any issues that arise, going forward would be resolved amicably.
He added that companies would work closely with the police to ensure a peaceful and conducive business environment in the state
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to fostering peace, energy security program of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and collaboration among all stakeholders in the state.
The Command urges all youths and business entities to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order, urging residents to visit the nearest police station in case of any security breaches.
