City’s Lead Slip Away In Shocking Madrid Comeback
By Benjamin Abioye

Real Madrid mounted a dramatic comeback against Manchester City to erase an early Haaland strike to secure a thrilling victory.
Manchester City took an early lead in their contest against Real Madrid, with Erling Haaland scoring his first goal against the Spanish giants.
Following the goal, Guardiola’s side gained control of the game, with a well-executed strategy that saw them dominate possession, especially in central areas. Their approach stifled Madrid’s attacks and limited their opportunities to exploit open spaces.
Substitute Phil Foden tested Thibaut Courtois with a long-range shot, while Manuel Akanji’s header from a set-piece narrowly missed. However, City failed to extend their lead, allowing Madrid’s front four to grow into the game towards the end of the first half. Kylian Mbappe had a clear chance to equalize but missed a wild effort when left unmarked in the box.
The second half began with Real Madrid applying pressure, and it only took a short while for them to level the score. After a series of near misses, Mbappe eventually found the back of the net with a well-placed volley from a set-piece situation. Despite City’s earlier dominance, Madrid’s equalizer seemed inevitable.
As the match progressed, City regained their composure, and a penalty awarded for a foul on Foden saw Haaland convert, restoring City’s advantage. However, in a dramatic turn of events, City conceded in the final minutes. A poor clearance from goalkeeper Ederson led to Brahim Diaz scoring the equalizer, and Vinicius Junior’s effort allowed Jude Bellingham to score a last-minute winner, completing a remarkable turnaround for Madrid.
