NURTW Baruwa Faction Urges Tinubu To Call MC Oluomo To Order
By Benjamin Abioye

The Baruwa-led NURTW faction has urged President Tinubu to intervene as MC Oluomo refuses to vacate the union’s national office despite a court ruling against him.
The faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by Tajudeen Baruwa has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing leadership dispute within the union.
The group is asking the President to direct Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, to vacate the union’s national office in Abuja.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the legal representative for the Baruwa-led faction, Tolu Babaleye, made the appeal. He emphasized that despite a ruling by the Court of Appeal against MC Oluomo, he has refused to leave the union’s national headquarters.
Babaleye explained that the issue started when Baruwa was elected as NURTW president in 2023, following the union’s constitution. However, a faction led by former president Alhaji Najeem Yasin was dissatisfied with the election outcome. In response, they set up a caretaker committee and removed Baruwa and his team from office.
Rather than engaging in conflict, Baruwa took legal action by filing a case at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. On March 11, 2024, Justice O.O. Oyewumi, who now serves at the Court of Appeal, ruled in favor of the Baruwa-led executive and dissolved the caretaker committee.
“Displeased by the judgment of the court, an appeal was entered at the Court of Appeal Abuja, led by the same Yasin, wherein he sought to overturn the decision of the industrial court,” Babaleye stated.
However, on November 8, 2024, the Court of Appeal dismissed Yasin’s appeal and upheld the previous court ruling. Despite this, Babaleye expressed shock that MC Oluomo was later declared as the national president of the union, completely disregarding the court’s decision.
“To our utmost surprise, the news of the inauguration of MC Oluomo as the national president of the union was announced in disregard to the decision of the court. Several attempts made to get the government to call Oluomo and his group to order had not yielded any result,” he said.
According to Babaleye, multiple letters were sent to key government officials, including the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, the Director-General of the State Security Service, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Minister of Labour and Employment.
“We are therefore using this medium to call on President Tinubu to call MC Oluomo and his group to order. Baruwa is the only legally recognised national president of the union,” he insisted.
He also urged the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the court’s ruling.
