UNIZIK Reacts To Video Of Lecturer-Student Fight

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has officially addressed the widely circulated altercation between a lecturer and a student, assuring the public of a full-scale, transparent investigation into the matter.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the UNIZIK confirmed that the incident involved Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 200-level student in the Department of History and International Studies. The altercation, which gained traction on social media, has sparked heated discussions online.

According to the university, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has mandated an unbiased probe into the case to ensure that due process is followed and justice is served.

“We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth. The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, ensuring that appropriate measures and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.

UNIZIK further emphasized its commitment to maintaining high moral and ethical standards within the institution, warning that any form of indiscipline, misconduct, or unacceptable behavior would not be tolerated.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes remain on the university’s disciplinary process, with many awaiting further updates on the next steps in the case.
