Outrage Over Police Demand For Fuel From Motorist (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye

A man has accused Nigerian Police officers of demanding that he buy fuel for their patrol vehicle despite finding his car documents in order.
The incident, which has drawn widespread reactions, raises concerns over alleged misconduct by law enforcement officers.
In a viral video shared on X, the man was seen expressing frustration over the demand while recording the officers. One of them, seemingly aware of being filmed, attempted to hit the device and warned, “You will regret what you are doing.” The exact location of the incident was not mentioned.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, questioned the officers’ actions, saying, “You checked my car documents, and they are complete. Now you are asking me to buy 10 liters of fuel. For what reason? If the authorities are not fueling your car, what do you want to do with the fuel?”
The video has since sparked heated discussions online. Some users condemned the officers’ actions, while others suggested a more diplomatic approach could have de-escalated the situation.
@FredMorgan29671 commented: “There are ways to approach police officers without getting into an altercation. Once your documents are complete, a little jovial laugh can settle things without getting out of hand. But people always want to prove they are right, putting their lives in danger.”
Others criticized the police, alleging a pattern of exploitation. @badablestarlove wrote: “Our police are poor. It’s not their fault. They just want to use every opportunity they get to take money from people.”
Similarly, @Eddyid8 added: “Anyone who has ever had an encounter with the police knows how they operate. This is nothing new.”
Some saw humor in the situation, highlighting the extent of alleged police misconduct. @fineboi_emerald remarked: “Next time, they might ask you to pay their rent too. This country is turning into a real comedy show.”
Meanwhile, others debated whether the man should have recorded the officers. @VKKYREPUBLIK stated: “You are not supposed to video him. If he checked your documents and they were complete, and he asked for fuel, you could have simply told him you didn’t have it instead of escalating the matter.”
The debate continues as many Nigerians call for police reforms. Some argue that if law enforcement officers were properly funded and compensated, incidents like this would not occur.
The Nigerian Police Force has yet to respond to the allegations at the time of this report.
