Liverpool Salah Lookman

Liverpool have begun discussions over the potential signing of Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, as they prepare for life after Mohamed Salah. The English giants see the Atalanta winger as a strong candidate to replace the Egyptian star, should he leave the club this summer.

Reports from Sky Sports Switzerland indicate that Liverpool have taken significant steps toward securing the 27-year-old, who has been in outstanding form this season. Lookman has recorded 17 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, making him one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.

Arsenal, Newcastle, and Manchester United Also Interested

While Liverpool is leading the race, Arsenal have also inquired about Lookman’s availability. However, their pursuit has not been as aggressive as Liverpool’s, who are keen on filling the potential void left by Salah’s departure. Additionally, Newcastle United and Manchester United have joined the list of suitors, with TEAMtalk reporting that Newcastle has already sent scouts to monitor Lookman’s performances.

Atalanta Open to Selling Lookman Amidst Managerial Rift

Lookman’s future at Atalanta has been the subject of increased speculation, especially after a reported disagreement with manager Gian Piero Gasperini. The fallout followed a crucial missed penalty in a Champions League match against Club Brugge, which left the coaching staff and teammates frustrated.

With top European clubs closely monitoring the situation, Atalanta is reportedly willing to sell Lookman for around €65 million (£53.8 million). The Serie A club is open to negotiations, particularly if the player pushes for an exit.

Lookman’s Rapid Rise in European Football

Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has cemented his reputation as one of the most dangerous attackers in Italian football. He has scored 49 goals and provided 23 assists in 107 matches for La Dea, playing a pivotal role in their recent successes.

His standout moment came in the 2023/24 Europa League final, where he netted a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy. That performance, coupled with his impressive run in the Africa Cup of Nations, where he led Nigeria to the final, earned him the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award in 2024.

A Return to the Premier League on the Cards?

Lookman, who began his Premier League career with Everton in 2017, also had spells at Fulham before moving abroad. His familiarity with English football makes him an attractive option for Liverpool, particularly as they plan for a potential rebuild under new head coach Arne Slot.

Mohamed Salah’s future remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire in 2025. Talks over an extension have reportedly stalled, and Saudi Arabian clubs are still interested in securing his services, after coming close to signing him last summer.

Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, alongside Arne Slot, is actively working on contingency plans. Lookman has emerged as one of the club’s top targets due to his goal-scoring ability, versatility in attack, and experience in high-pressure games.

PSG, Juventus, and Inter Milan Also Monitoring Lookman

Beyond the Premier League, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on Lookman’s situation. PSG, in particular, had previously shown interest during last summer’s transfer window and could reignite their pursuit if the opportunity arises.

With several elite European clubs in the race, Ademola Lookman’s next move will be a major talking point in the summer transfer window.
