Delta APC: Omo-Agege And His Betrayers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State stands at a critical juncture, a moment that will define its future trajectory. At this crossroads, the grassroots, the very lifeblood of our party, rise to staunchly defend the principles of democracy, internal party cohesion, and the legitimate leadership of H.E. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, KSJI, the Deputy President of the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We, the grassroots, will not stand idly by while a cabal of self-serving individuals attempts to undermine our collective will through clandestine schemes fueled by financial inducements. This is not merely a challenge to our intelligence; it is a brazen assault on the very foundations of our party and the democratic ideals we hold sacred.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s leadership is not a matter of conjecture or personal opinion; it is a constitutional mandate, legitimized by his exemplary service and enshrined within the APC’s constitution. As the immediate past Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate (2019–2023), he holds the distinction of being the highest-ranking political officeholder from Delta State in the APC’s history, a position that carries significant weight and responsibility. Article 12.5 of the APC Constitution clearly stipulates that leadership belongs to the highest-ranking political officeholder, past or present. This is not an ambiguous clause open to interpretation; it is a clear directive that must be respected and upheld.

Senator Omo-Agege’s tenure was marked by an unwavering commitment to the advancement of Delta State. His advocacy led to landmark infrastructural projects, empowerment programs that transformed lives, and a powerful voice that resonated with Delta’s interests at the national level. His legacy is etched in the lives he touched, the communities he uplifted, and the progress he championed. Unlike his detractors, Senator Omo-Agege’s contributions are tangible and enduring, not rooted in the ephemeral bitterness of political grudges.

It is disheartening to witness a faction of self-proclaimed elites, consumed by envy and personal ambition, attempting to rewrite the APC’s rules to suit their narrow interests. Their assertion that a serving Minister, holding a position inferior to that of a Senator within the party’s hierarchy, should usurp the leadership of the party in Delta State is not only illogical but a flagrant violation of the APC constitution. The APC’s National Caucus has affirmed Senator Omo-Agege’s leadership position, yet these individuals persist in their delusion, defying both the party’s directives and the will of the grassroots.

Do not let their photo ops with Mr. President bother you – if the several photo ops with the National Chairman yielded their desired result, they would not have upped their photo ops charade to that of posing with Mr. President! Be rest assured that Mr. President has told us that the National Chairman and the entire National Executive Committee of our great party are in synch with his philosophy and that the National Chairman is doing well – of course, the national Chairman’s last talk with these disgruntled few was when he reminded them that our great party – the APC, believes in ‘internal democracy’, and that they should return to the grassroots to win supporters for themselves, and for the party!

Their actions are not merely misguided; they are deeply damaging to the party’s unity and prospects. While Senator Omo-Agege tirelessly works to consolidate the APC’s gains, these individuals engage in acts of sabotage, prioritizing personal gain over the collective good. History will remember them as the architects of division, the enemies of progress, who undermined the party’s strength for their selfish purposes.

Having failed to sway the party’s national leadership with their orchestrated displays of allegiance, these disgruntled elements have now resorted to deploying ill-gotten wealth in a desperate attempt to buy loyalty and sow discord within our ranks. They seek to tempt loyal members into betraying the very leader who has elevated Delta APC’s relevance on the national stage. These so-called “senior students of the collegiate commercial school” engage in clandestine plots to infiltrate the grassroots, offering financial inducements in a futile attempt to gain support.

Let us be clear: the grassroots cannot be bought. We are not pawns to be manipulated in their political games. Our allegiance to Senator Omo-Agege is rooted in his proven capacity to deliver, not in the transient allure of cash-filled envelopes. They mistake poverty for naivety, but the grassroots is rich in resolve. “Collegiate money” is a mirage, a fleeting illusion that will ultimately fail to sway the unwavering solidarity of the grassroots.

Their attempts to “infiltrate” the grassroots expose their desperation and hypocrisy. They convene secret meetings in dimly lit rooms, whispering promises of instant wealth to those they once ignored. Where were they when our communities needed water projects? Where were they when our communities needed electrical transformers to light up our houses and streets? Where were they when our people needed improvement in their lives, and when our communities begged for roads? They were conspicuously absent, consumed by their self-serving pursuits.

Senator Omo-Agege, on the other hand, was present. He worked tirelessly to address the needs of our communities, and the grassroots witnessed his dedication firsthand. His actions speak louder than their empty promises and fleeting displays of generosity.

We urge every loyal grassroots member of the APC in Delta State to remain vigilant and reject the insidious allure of mercenary politics. Report any attempts at bribery and expose the agents of discord. Hold fast to the ideals that make our party great: integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to the people.

To the disillusioned foot soldiers of the “collegiate commercial school,” we extend a hand of reconciliation: abandon this sinking ship and return to the fold where integrity reigns. Your talents and energies are better spent contributing to the progress of our party and the betterment of our communities.

To H.E. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, KSJI, we reaffirm our unwavering support: Lead on! The grassroots marches with you, united in our commitment to your vision and leadership.

To the “collegiate commercial school,” we deliver a resounding message: The APC in Delta will not be hijacked. The APC’s strength in Delta lies in its grassroots. The grassroots reject the politics of greed and embrace the politics of service. Let this serve as notice: the grassroots are awake, aware, and unwavering. No amount of money can shake our resolve. H.E. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, KSJI, is our leader today, tomorrow, and always.
