EFCC Ex-Governor Udom Emmanue

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly released the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, after questioning him over an alleged ₦700 billion fraud.

Sources indicate that Emmanuel was taken into custody shortly after he arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 12:30 p.m. He had gone to the office in response to an invitation regarding allegations of money laundering, diversion of funds, and theft filed against him by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT), a civil society group.

According to EFCC insiders, the petition alleges that during his eight years in office, Emmanuel received ₦3 trillion from the Federation Account but left behind a ₦500 billion debt and ₦300 billion worth of unfinished projects in Akwa Ibom State.

Additionally, he is accused of failing to account for ₦700 billion.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Special Adviser on Public Communication to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, confirmed Emmanuel’s release in a post on 𝕏.

He wrote, “Former Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, back home after honouring EFCC invitation yesterday.”

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not issued any official statement regarding Emmanuel’s questioning and release.
