A viral video circulating on social media has sparked controversy after two Nigerian soldiers were seen ordering a young lady to remove her camouflage trousers in public.

The incident, which reportedly took place on a busy road, shows the lady dressed in army camouflage trousers and a white singlet when the soldiers intercepted her. They insisted she took off the trousers immediately, despite the presence of bystanders watching in shock. Fortunately, she had a pair of tights underneath, preventing a complete public embarrassment.

The video has since ignited mixed reactions online. While some netizens condemned the soldiers’ actions as humiliating and unnecessary, others defended them, arguing that civilians should not be wearing military camouflage. Some skeptics even suggested the incident was staged.

Read some netizens’ reactions below;

@Nova: What right does a soldier have to harass a fellow citizen all in the name of wearing their uniform.The lady should sue him.

@wewe_of_lagos: Nigeria my country they could have warned her not to wear it again than to harass her in such manner , you can’t blame them tho , they undergo 6 month training before they got that uniforms

@ibukun_tayo: What if she wasn’t wearing anything inside ?

@pridecrib: Na content aje girl no go wear that thing under trousers

@tinomabwe: Why do we as Africans find pride in humiliating each other like this? This is just horrible

@unclesalam101: Countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Kenya have banned civilians from wearing camouflage primarily to protect national security, prevent crime, and uphold military authority, yet, all these issues still persist across Africa. Dunno 🤷‍♂️🤷

As of the time of this report, military authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter.
