Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has expressed deep regret over a past incident where he failed to keep a promise to renowned gospel singer Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji, on their wedding day.

In an interview with Baba Ibe TV, the seasoned actor recounted how he had agreed to lend his newly acquired luxury car to Tope Alabi for her wedding, only to later back out at the last minute.

According to Igwe, the incident occurred shortly after he purchased a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot following the success of his hit movie Ololade Mr. Money. Igwe said that during the wedding preparations, Tope Alabi and her husband visited him and requested to use the vehicle as their official ride, a request he gladly accepted.

However, just days before the wedding, he had second thoughts due to an unsettling experience. While in Ibadan to promote one of his films, the car was briefly stolen by armed robbers but was recovered the next day after widespread media reports. This incident made him hesitant to lend out the vehicle, fearing a repeat occurrence.

“I stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding. I disappointed Tope Alabi. But today, she owns countless luxury cars, some of which I cannot even afford. It still pains me that I let her down,” Igwe admitted.

The actor revealed that he had since sought Alabi’s forgiveness during a professional gathering in Ogun State, but the guilt still lingers.

“My greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi,” Igwe concluded.

The revelation has created mixed reactions online, with fans commending Igwe for acknowledging his mistake while others noted that Alabi has moved past the incident, given her success today.
