Veteran actress Dupe Jayesimi shares her struggles with childlessness, a failed marriage, and the pain of a heartbreaking miscarriage.

Veteran actress Dupe Jayesimi has opened up about her painful journey with childlessness and failed relationships, sharing the emotional and physical struggles she endured over the years.

Reflecting on her past, she revealed that she once became pregnant, an event that filled her with joy. However, doctors later discovered that the baby was positioned behind her womb, leading to a devastating miscarriage. “When I was pregnant, I was happy. It was later, the doctors observed that the baby was at the back of my womb. It was like I should get swallowed by the ground,” she recalled. The loss was particularly heartbreaking for her, as she had longed for a child for years.

Her marriage, already under pressure due to her inability to conceive, eventually collapsed. She revealed that her husband grew distant, even going as far as placing a pillow between them at night to avoid physical contact. “Whenever my husband and I wanted to sleep, he would use a pillow to demarcate the bed so our body wouldn’t touch.” The final blow came when she left the marriage, only to discover that her ex-husband had moved on immediately, bringing in a pregnant woman to replace her. “Two weeks after I left my husband’s house, he had a new wife come in immediately with pregnancy. I cried. I am not an alcoholic person, but because of that, I did turn into a drunkard.”

Determined to become a mother, she turned to IVF, undergoing the process twice. However, both attempts ended in failure, adding to her emotional distress. “I did IVF twice, and it got to a stage where I used to see a drop of blood every evening.” Despite her struggles, she took in and cared for many children over the years, but she admitted that they eventually drifted away from her. “So many children that I have taken good care of don’t even look back to check on me. Is it my younger sister’s kid, or name them?”

She also shared her mother’s insistence that she adopt a child, believing that the family would support and care for the child together. However, the actress never went through with it. Financial struggles have also been a concern for her, as she admitted that her acting career no longer brings in enough income. “For now, I have no other job than theatre, and it isn’t paying like before. May God not let me suffer in old age. It has been seven years since I worked last.”

Despite all she has endured, Jayesimi remains hopeful, believing that life always presents new opportunities. “I believe that no one will ever die and get dropped on the roadside. And they say it’s because she didn’t give birth. If there’s still life, there’s always hope.”
