Wike funeral

A group of Ijaw people in Delta State has created controversy after organizing a mock obituary for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

A viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) captured the moment hundreds of people gathered, singing and dancing while carrying a casket adorned with Wike’s poster. The crowd could be heard chanting a song with the lyrics, “Wike, rest in peace,” suggesting a symbolic funeral for the former Rivers State governor.

The footage, which has generated widespread reactions, was shared by a user who condemned the act. The post read: “I do not support this. These are some Ijaw people in Delta State holding a funeral service for Wike, with ‘Gone So Soon’ inscribed on a casket. It’s wrong na… Haba ✖️✖️✖️.”

The mock funeral comes amid rising political tensions in Rivers State, where a state of emergency has been declared following the power struggle between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The incident has further raised many unanswered questions, with many questioning the appropriateness of such a display in the midst of the ongoing crisis.
