Tinubu’s Man, Omokri Blames Obi For Super Eagles’ Draw Against Zimbabwe
By Gideon Ayeni

Former presidential aide and President Bola Tinubu’s social media bouncer, Reno Omokri has sparked controversy after blaming Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the Super Eagles’ underwhelming performance in their World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.
Following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw in the crucial match on Tuesday, Omokri took to social media to criticize Obi’s presence at the stadium, arguing that his attendance was a distraction to the team.
According to Omokri, politics and football should not mix, and Obi should have maintained a low profile instead of making efforts to be seen and even granting an impromptu interview at the venue.
“This match was about Nigeria, not him,” Omokri wrote. “And even if he had to go, he should have kept a low profile. Politics and football do not mix. The players needed to be focused on the game. Politicians drain morale.”
He further alleged that Obi’s presence had a negative impact, comparing it to his attendance at the AFCON final earlier this year when Nigeria lost to Ivory Coast.
Omokri’s remarks have since sent the social media abuzz, with netizens divided over whether Obi’s presence had any actual effect on the Super Eagles’ performance. While some dismissed Omokri’s claims as baseless, others echoed his sentiments, arguing that political figures should stay away from sporting events unless they hold official positions.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@nporeports: What a logic? So, it’s @PeterObi presence at the stadium that made the @NGSuperEagles perform poorly?
@akute: Are you insinuating that the man who is always in black brought back luck to Super Eagles I’m curious to know!
@akereyejo: He was a bad influence for the super eagles. He should have watched from home or a beer parlour where he gets his statistics.
@amedino2004: Reno, you’re educated and you’ve visited many countries in the world. So stop believing africa magic jinx nonsense. The outcome has been destined by God. Stop believing in village folktales
@jnrulegede: Oga leave Peter Obi alone,at least be sensible for once…..
As discussions continue, Obi has yet to respond to Omokri’s criticism.
