Chief Nduka Irabor, one of the leading lights in Nigerian journalism and an exemplification of the toil for media freedom has condoled with Emmanuel Aziken, publisher of GWG.ng over the death of his mother, Madam Helen Erina Aziken.

In a telephone call to the publisher following reports of the decease of Madam Helen Aziken, Honourable Irabor, jokingly rebuked him for allowing him to first read the news in the media.

Irabor, who is etched in the chronicles of The Guardian as one of the newspapers most superlative news editors, asked Mr Aziken how the news of his mother’s death did not pass through his news editor’s desk before publication.

“Emma, how can I be reading the news of your mother’s death in the media,” Irabor who has served as a mentor and inspiration quizzed? “I thought I was your senior brother,” the former newspaper editor doubled-down forcing profuse apologies from his mentee.

Irabor subsequently condoled with Emmanuel Aziken and prayed for the success of the forthcoming burial.

GWG.ng reports that Honourable Irabor also served in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003 and left behind major imprints in the policies that reshaped Nigeria’s telecommunication sector at the turn of the century.
