Former presidential aide and President Bola Tinubu social media bouncer, Reno Omokri has claimed that he was instrumental in securing Peter Obi’s position as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview with NewsCentral, Omokri stated that he personally worked behind the scenes, along with other key figures, to ensure Obi’s selection.

“Peter Obi was a project of mine. Myself and two others, including Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, were asked by a former president to promote him because he was seen as a good candidate,” Omokri said. “I spent my own money to project and promote him. I was responsible for Peter Obi becoming Atiku’s running mate in 2019. I have the records to prove it.”

Omokri further emphasized that Obi had actively sought the position, lobbying for it by sending his credentials and resume.

“Peter Obi was lobbying me, sending me his resume. We did everything we did, and I have never collected a dime from him,” he stated.

He also insisted that both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were fully aware of the role he played in the process.

“Waziri Atiku Abubakar cannot deny it, Peter Obi cannot deny it,” he added.

Despite his contributions, Omokri expressed disappointment that Obi later defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) without informing those who had supported him.

“Peter Obi left our party suddenly without informing any of us who helped him. That’s fine, but we couldn’t go with him because he didn’t tell us. Even if he had, we wouldn’t have gone with him anyway because we were committed to our party and our candidate.”

Omokri’s comments have sparked renewed discussions about the internal politics of the PDP and the power struggles that shaped the 2019 election.
