Video: Couple Go Begging For Wedding Money
By Benjamin Abioye

A Nigerian couple has taken an unconventional route to fund their wedding, stepping onto the streets dressed in full wedding attire to seek donations from passersby.
The groom, standing in a busy public area, held an open briefcase as his bride stood beside him with a placard reading, “Need money to sponsor our wedding.”
The scene, captured in a viral video circulating across Nigerian news platforms, has drawn a mixture of reactions from onlookers. Some people, intrigued by the unusual approach, stopped to contribute money, while others took pictures and videos of the spectacle.
The couple’s bold move has quickly ignited discussions on social media, with many Nigerians debating whether this is an act of genuine need or simply a social experiment for online content.
The video has attracted thousands of comments, with opinions divided on the couple’s decision to publicly solicit funds for their wedding. Some users expressed concern over the growing culture of entitlement, while others viewed it as an innovative way to seek assistance.
Twitter user @AfamDeluxo remarked, “This is content, but with how entitlement is growing in Nigeria, people might start doing this daily. Dear Nigerians: if you can’t fund your wedding, don’t beg, scale it down. It’s a ceremony, not your entire destiny.”
Another user, @flourish007, questioned the sustainability of such an approach, asking, “Will they bring their children to the streets after the wedding too? If you can’t afford a wedding, how do you plan to provide for your children?”
On the other hand, some saw the incident as a testament to Nigerians’ generosity. @codo2324 commented, “Nigerians are naturally lovely people. People gave them money while smiling. 87% of our problem is the government. God bless Nigeria.”
Some users, however, doubted the authenticity of the act. @Creed_printz tweeted, “Lol this must be content because wtf.”
As social media has continued to shape modern culture, stunts like this have raised questions about personal responsibility versus community support. While some have argued that such acts highlight economic struggles and the need for assistance, others have warned of the potential for abuse.
Regardless of whether the couple’s appeal has been genuine or staged, their actions have sparked an important conversation about financial responsibility, social expectations, and the ever-evolving landscape of digital influence in Nigeria.
