A nurse has stirred emotions online after sharing a heart-wrenching moment from her job. She recalled the final words of a patient who passed away in her arms, leaving her deeply moved.

In a video clip posted on social media, the nurse, identified as @miz_favy, was seen shedding tears in a hospital setting. The overlay text on her video recounted the patient’s last words before their passing. She expressed that the depth of emotional pain one experiences in such moments is immeasurable.

“You haven’t felt heart pain till a patient you are managing tells you thank you, smiles and gives up on your hands,” she wrote.

The nurse’s emotional revelation struck a chord with many netizens, especially those in the healthcare profession, who took to the comment section to share similar experiences.

One user, Mercy Jakes, recounted her own encounter: “He told me thank you for everything you done mercy and then went to take over before I knew it I heard people shouting in his room on getting there the person I just spoke with and laughed was dead.”

Reina also shared her perspective: “Then the consultant requested for a death review and all fingers are pointing at you. 😢 then you tell yourself at least the patient appreciated you.”

Another commenter, Diamond, expressed gratitude for the medical team that supported her in a difficult moment: “I really appreciate the Doctors that were on duties the night my mom passed, they knew there was no hope, but they kept assuring us, and making us smile because tension was too high Omo😢😥.”

A nurse identified as yebom detailed a similar experience: “I lost a patient 3 days ago. I had been avoiding nursing her because I was getting emotionally attached. 3 days ago there was no escaping it. She was in pain throughout the night and I did all I could. Around 6am her O2 level dropped to 62 while on oxygen I was so scared and was able to stabilize her. I called the doctor and handed over to the next duty nurses around 8am almost in tears. The last thing she said to me was ‘I want to sleep.'”

Others shared stories of emotional bonds with their patients, including a nurse who had been with a pregnant woman throughout her entire journey, only for her to pass away moments after childbirth. “Not me nursing a patient from day one of her pregnancy till 9 months, during labor I had to leave home to stay with her at the hospital and she looked me in the eye told me thank you for your love and care pls get me water, only for me to leave the delivery room to the reception she gave up 😭😭😭😭😭, I can never forget that day, how I wish I didn’t answer to her request of me getting her water.”

Many netizens also discussed the emotional toll of the medical profession, emphasizing how healthcare workers form deep connections with patients and often bear the pain of their passing. One user, folami, admitted: “I didn’t sleep for like 3 days because of this patient but immediately I took a nap in the afternoon before I woke up she gave up. I regret sleeping that afternoon.”

The video and subsequent reactions highlight the emotional weight carried by those in the medical field, making it clear that beyond medical treatments and procedures, nurses and doctors build human connections that often leave lasting imprints on their hearts.
