Omo-Agege Mum As Trial Commences
By Emmanuel Aziken

The trial of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege by those once regarded as his houseboys and house girls has commenced in many social media platforms associated with the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State.
The trial of the erstwhile Deputy President of the Senate was instigated through a petition addressed to the chairman of the party in the state, Elder Omeni Sobotie, who was once dubbed as the head of Omo-Agege’s houseboys, having been picked by Omo-Agege for the position.
GWG.ng reports that Sobotie like many others in Omo-Agege’s political household, has since rebelled and escaped and is now popularly associated with the tendency associated with the minister of aviation, Mr Festus Keyamo.
Keyamo it would be recalled, was the one who initially slammed the Sobotie executive as populated with Omo-Agege’s houseboys and house girls and had vowed never to associate himself with that tendency.
Picking on popular but yet to be established claims that Omo-Agege did not support President Bola Tinubu for the 2023 APC presidential convention and that he also did not support Tinubu in the main election, some APC stakeholders in Delta State have petitioned the Sobotie executive to bring sanctions on the former DSP.
The prospect of Omo-Agege being brought to trial by those who were once his political loyalists is now reverberating through the Delta State chapter of the APC. Many stakeholders see the petition as a move to cut Omo-Agege to size and prevent him from aspiring for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket. That is after his largely unsuccessful run in 2023.
The move against Omo-Agege was first made manifest a few weeks ago when party leaders led by the three senators in the state along with Keyamo paid a visit to President Tinubu without informing Omo-Agege. The sight of party leaders from the state with Tinubu, without the presumed party leader, aimed to demystify Omo-Agege in the state.
Remarkably, Omo-Agege who was at that time rounding up a statewide tour, days later, visited the president and also made his picture public, albeit alone.
Now, in the latest move against Omo-Agege, party leaders have articulated a petition demanding among others;
1. Immediate investigation into the handling of 2023 campaign funds and anti-party activities by an independent panel.
2. Disciplinary action for his alleged role in sabotaging fellow party candidates.
3. A comprehensive audit of all funds received and disbursed under his campaign leadership.
4. A formal declaration by the party that Senator Omo-Agege will not be considered for the 2027 gubernatorial ticket.
Remarkably, a number of party leaders have dissociated themselves from the petition, claiming that their signatures were forged.
Among those who have dissociated themselves from the trial of Omo-Agege is Chief Benson Oni Obrogo, who in a letter to Sobotie washed his hands off the petition against the former DSP.
In the letter obtained by GWG.ng, Obrogo wrote:
“My attention has been drawn to a petition titled “PETITION BY CONCERNED LEADERS AND ELDERS OF DELTA STATE APC TO THE STATE CHAIRMAN, ELDER OMENI SOBOTIE AGAINST SEN. OVIE OMO-AGEGE…” which was published and recently submitted to your office and circulated across APC social media platforms. To my utmost shock and dismay, I observed that my name has been listed among the signatories to the said document.
“I wish to categorically state, for the record and for the avoidance of doubt, that I was not privy to any meeting, discussion, or deliberation where any such petition was conceived, drafted, or adopted. At no time did I grant permission for my name to be included as a signatory, nor did I consent, either orally or in writing, to be part of any group or faction endorsing or submitting such a petition.
This inclusion of my name without my knowledge or consent is not only false, mischievous, and misleading, but also a direct assault on my integrity, personal principles, and political values. I consider it a deliberate act of misrepresentation and a gross abuse of trust, clearly aimed at dragging my name into a controversy that I had no part in initiating or supporting.
I hereby completely and unequivocally dissociate myself from the said petition and any contents therein. I also demand that my name be retracted from all versions of the petition, both in circulation and on record, with immediate effect. Any further use of my name in connection with this petition or similar correspondence will be regarded as a willful act of defamation, and I shall not hesitate to seek legal redress to protect my name and reputation.
I remain a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), committed to the unity, discipline, and progress of our great Party. I urge you, sir, and the State Working Committee, to take note of this disclaimer and ensure that it is duly recorded and acted upon.
Thank you for your attention and anticipated cooperation.
Meanwhile, Omo-Agege has yet to formally respond to his former houseboys amid the clamour for his trial.
