Just Like Obasanjo, Eedris Abdulkareem Attacks Tinubu Govt After Song Ban
By Benjamin Abioye

Eedris Abdulkareem has condemned the NBC for banning his controversial song “Tell Your Papa,” which calls on Seyi Tinubu to address Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic challenges.
Veteran Nigerian rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, has reacted strongly to the ban placed on his new song, “Tell Your Papa,” by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The song, which was recently released, directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, urging him to confront his father over the increasing hardship faced by Nigerians.
In the song, Abdulkareem openly criticizes the government for the poor living conditions in the country. He raps, “Seyi, tell your papa country hard. Tell your papa people dey die. Tell your papa this one don pass jagajaga.”
He also adds, “Seyi, how far? I swear your papa no try. Too much empty promises. On behalf of Nigerians, take our message to him; kidnappers dey kill Nigerians.”
He further challenges Seyi Tinubu, saying, “Seyi, try travel by road without your security make you feel the pains of fellow Nigerians. You dey fly private jets, insecurity no be your problem.”
However, NBC in a memo dated April 9, 2025, ordered that radio and TV stations in Nigeria must not play the song. The commission described the song as inappropriate and offensive, saying it does not meet the standard of responsible broadcasting as stated in Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
Reacting to the ban through his Instagram page, Abdulkareem accused the government of President Bola Tinubu of being highly insensitive to criticism. He said the government sees truth and constructive criticism as a crime.
He wrote, “It’s obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed as a big crime by the government, and this present government led by President Bola Tinubu is now going on records as one of the most insensitive, vindictive, and grossly maleficent administration ever to preside over the affairs of Nigeria.”
He further said, “Just under 2 years of his presidency, and the results are frighteningly abysmal from all fronts. And this is a fact known by all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe, and political affiliations, except for the few happy slaves grovelling for crumbs from their paymaster’s table!”
Abdulkareem also compared the current situation to what happened to him years ago when his song “Jaga Jaga” was banned during President Obasanjo’s government. He concluded by saying, “Any wonder why Nigeria hasn’t made impactful strides all these years? The conscience is an open wound, only truth can heal it.”
