Tragedy As Sightseeing Helicopter Crashes Into Hudson River (Video)
By Gideon Ayeni

A sightseeing helicopter tour ended in heartbreak on Thursday afternoon after a tragic crash into the Hudson River claimed the lives of six people, including a Spanish family of five and their pilot.
The ill-fated aircraft, operated by New York Helicopters, had taken off from the Wall Street Heliport around 3:17 p.m. and was en route over Manhattan when disaster struck leading it to crash into the Hudson River. Moments after reaching the George Washington Bridge, the helicopter suddenly veered south and plummeted into the river near River Drive in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Among the victims were Agustin Escobar, a high-ranking executive at Siemens, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three young children aged 4, 5, and 11. The family, residents of Barcelona, Spain, were in the United States on vacation. The 36-year-old pilot, whose name has not yet been released, also died in the crash.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed deep sorrow during a press briefing, saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and those on board. This is an unimaginable loss.”
Shocking eyewitness footage captured the helicopter tumbling upside down into the water, with visible damage to its key components. Investigators noted that the tail rotor and one of the main rotor blades were missing as the aircraft fell — a detail now central to the investigation. It remains unclear whether the parts detached mid-air or before takeoff.

Emergency crews responded swiftly, pulling all six passengers from the wreckage and rushing them to Jersey City Medical Center. Despite their best efforts, none of the victims survived. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop praised the rescue team, saying they “tried as hard as they could” to save lives in the face of the catastrophe.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched a full investigation to determine what caused the helicopter to crash into the Hudson River as the city and the global community mourn the loss of lives in what was meant to be a joyful sightseeing tour.
