The family of the late Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), who, along with five others, tragically passed away in a February helicopter crash in California, has filed a lawsuit against the US helicopter charter company, citing negligence.

Ogunbanjo, along with his friend Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings, and Wigwe’s wife and son, tragically died when the helicopter they had chartered from Orbic Air crashed near the California-Nevada border.

According to the Ogunbanjo family, the company was at fault for flying in hazardous weather conditions.

“Helicopters do not do very well in snow and ice ..This flight was entirely preventable, and we don’t know why they took off”, one of the attorneys who filed the lawsuit, Andrew C. Robb.

The deceased’s wife and children are pursuing compensation for what they believe was his wrongful death. They filed a lawsuit on Wednesday at San Bernardino County Superior Court.

Listed as defendants in the  suit are  Orbic Air and  its CEO, Brady Bowers.

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is still investigating the cause of the crash, but the Ogunbajo family has moved to seek compensation over the crash.
