Women Protest Port Harcourt Demand Fubara

A large group of women organized a protest march in Port Harcourt on Friday, demanding the immediate reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was suspended earlier this year.

The women marched to the State Government House to protest their dissatisfaction with the current situation in Rivers State and to call for the return of their elected governor.

The protesters carried signs with powerful messages such as “Bring back Fubara,” “Is the law different for Rivers State?” and “God of justice, arise for Rivers State.” Other placards read “Save our democracy” and “End injustice and bring back our governor.”

The women, who described themselves as “mothers and wives,” came together to show their support for justice and the restoration of democratic values in Rivers State.

The women also directed their appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to reinstate all democratic institutions in the state, including the return of Fubara as governor. They condemned the current situation, calling the suspension of Fubara and the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State as an “unconstitutional military rule, masked as a state of emergency.”

The protest by the women follows the suspension of Governor Fubara in March 2025 after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. The suspension affected Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the State House of Assembly. The move has sparked controversy, with many critics arguing that it undermines democratic processes in Rivers State.
