By Benjamin Abioye

A fresh protest erupted in Port Harcourt on Thursday with Rivers Women United for Sim (RWUS) demanding the reinstatement of Governor Fubara and a return to peace in the state.
A protest has erupted in Port Harcourt, with Rivers Women United demanding the reinstatement of Governor Fubara, today, Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The women, in a peaceful demonstration, called for the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and a return to peace in the state. They emphasized that Rivers State has always been a land of peace and urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political crisis.
The protestors carried banners that demanded the return of all elected officials who were currently under suspension, stressing that Governor Fubara had not done anything to warrant his removal. This was not the first time such protests had occurred. Since Fubara’s suspension in March, the women have continuously marched, demanding that the decision be reversed.
One of the most significant protests took place on April 11, when hundreds of women gathered on Aba Road in Port Harcourt. They carried banners with messages like “Bring back Fubara,” “Save our democracy,” “Is the law different for Rivers State?” and “God of justice, arise for Rivers State.” The protestors moved from the main roads to the Government House, singing songs of unity and strength as they marched. Many of the women identified themselves as mothers and wives, and they made heartfelt appeals to President Tinubu, urging him to lift the suspension and restore democratic governance in the state.
Earlier in the week, another massive demonstration occurred on April 22, 2025, with large crowds loyal to Governor Fubara marching from Aggrey Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township. The protestors, in a display of support, also called for the immediate reinstatement of the governor.
GWG.ng recalls that Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, had previously warned Fubara’s supporters against staging such protests. Ibas cautioned that any form of unrest would not be tolerated. Despite this warning, the protests have continued, reflecting the deep political divisions in the state and the strong desire of Fubara’s supporters for his return to office.
