Video: Lady’s Advice On Keeping A Man Divides The Internet
By Benjamin Abioye

A young lady has ignited widespread debate on social media after boldly sharing her personal take on what it takes for women to enjoy lasting relationships with men.
Standing confidently in what appears to be a seminar setting, she delivered a deeply reflective message — one that some are calling truth, and others are calling controversial.
“What I’m going to say might not make a lot of women happy,” she began, setting the tone for what would become a viral conversation. “I’m a girl, so I’m not trying to be happy either… See, a lot of us have our own problem.”
Throughout her candid monologue, she emphasized the emotional maturity and restraint she believes are necessary to sustain a relationship. “It takes you so much to be able to calm down to even want a man… If you listen to the man with the way he speaks to you, and you want to speak back, baby, you no go stay.”
The most striking part of her talk came when she recounted a conversation with her mother: “I asked my mom, what do I need to do to be able to stay with a man? And she just told me two things — give him peace and learn to be loyal.”
The lady admitted to once having a fiery temperament in relationships but explained she had to learn how to control it. “If you vex me, I will change am for your village people,” she confessed. But through experience and growth, she now believes, “Calm down and know when to talk and when not to talk.”
Her message — wrapped in vulnerability, cultural awareness, and lived experience — set off a storm of reactions online.
Mixed Reactions Flood Social Media
Some users applauded her insight and maturity. @THE_CRAFT3R wrote, “If you no calm down, the lady wey sabi calm down go take your place. It’s just what it is.” Another user, @enibieny, shared from personal experience, saying, “Peace and Respect ehn… it’s the cheat code.”
But not everyone agreed. Critics questioned whether submission and silence should be the foundation of any relationship. @ma_ky__ commented, “Submission is one thing, being stupid is another… don’t take shit from a man.” @Itanolami added, “You’ll be surprised the man you dey do meme for will end up with a lady that will never take his shit.”
Others focused on the double standard. @darkelf_05 pointed out, “She sought her mother’s advice and had to learn when she hit 30+.” @nigerianraised reminded the audience, “It applies to men too.”
Still, her supporters remained firm. @samydauda called her “a role model for the young and old girls,” and @okoyedavid007 simply asked, “Who is this lady? Wise words from a decent woman.”
This viral moment has evolved into more than just one woman’s opinion. It’s sparked a broader conversation about gender roles, expectations in relationships, and the ongoing tension between individuality and compatibility.
While her message might not sit well with everyone, one thing is certain — her words have struck a nerve and opened up space for much-needed dialogue.
