Ireti Using My Name To Stay Relevant Despite Divorce – Patrick Doyle
By Benjamin Abioye

Patrick Doyle responded to claims surrounding his ex-wife Ireti, suggesting she continues to use his surname to remain visible in Nollywood.
Veteran actor Patrick Doyle has addressed public claims that his former wife, actress Ireti Doyle, is more famous than he is. He responded by questioning why she still uses his surname despite their separation.
In an interview on Duke Rants, Doyle claimed that Ireti continues to use his last name as a way to stay relevant in the Nigerian movie industry.
“Why is Doyle popular? Why did the person revert to Doyle after the separation? Who is responsible for making whom popular? The name predates that person’s emergence. It is okay with me. I do not have a problem with it,” he said.
Reflecting on his own long-standing career, Patrick explained that he gained national attention at a young age and has remained active in the entertainment world for decades.
“I have been popular since I was 16. Popularity is not to be measured. How long has she been around? I have been around for 45 years, and I am still around. I was a superstar at the age of 16. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo, the former vice president of Nigeria,” he shared.
Patrick added that at this stage in his life, he is no longer chasing the spotlight. Instead, he is focused on living a peaceful life and letting others take the stage.
“As of today, I am enjoying my life. I am the one who likes obscurity. Do you see me at parties? It is time for somebody else to shine. I yield. There is nothing to ask,” he said.
He emphasized that his current goal is to make meaningful contributions rather than seek public attention.
“Being popular is no longer my objective, but being profound is my objective. Being profound in a very relevant and fundamental way is what I am after now,” he said.
He also made it clear that his identity and career are not tied to his ex-wife.
“I can never be defined by her. My body of work is too solid to be defined by anyone,” he stated.
Patrick and Ireti were married in 2004 but eventually went their separate ways. In early 2023, Ireti confirmed their divorce, saying that leaving the marriage was necessary for her mental well-being. The former couple share five children and have continued to maintain a professional relationship.
In 2022, Patrick remarried a woman named Olufunmilayo, though he kept the relationship private until the following year. He has also publicly expressed that he holds no bitterness toward Ireti despite their split.
