Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has intimated President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.

The governor who defected to the APC about a year ago told State House correspondents on Tuesday that he briefed the president of his intention following a meeting earlier in the day.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinunbu informed President Buhari of his intention to contest for 2023 presidential election.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that before Umahi opened up on his 2023 presidential plans that earlier in the day that former governor of Abia State and incumbent Senate Minority Leader, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu had also disclosed his readiness to contest the presidential election but only if the office is zoned to the Southeast.

Reacting to the posters calling on him to contest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Kalu had said:

“I want to continue to thank people who are putting up my posters all over Nigeria. I have not made up my mind whether to vie for president or not.

“But if the opportunity is given to the South-East, I will think again to see if there is room because the party has not said where they are zoning the president to”, Kalu added.
