Kogi: Election Observer Narrates How She Escaped Death By Whiskers
One of Nigeria’s leading civil society activists, Faith Nwadiashi has thanked God on how she made a miraculous escape from what she has described as the election war in Kogi State.
Nwadiashi who is the executive director of Centre for Transparency Advocacy, CTA which deployed 50 observers to monitor the elections in Kogi State.
In a message to friends on Facebook, she said:
“I experienced a great miracle yesterday! (Saturday) God is good and when you experience a great God like my God, you will understand why I just can’t stop worshipping Him. I escaped with my life and the lives of my team members. We were observing elections in Kogi!
“I am shaken to my spine! Luckily got to Lokoja after three hours through an alternative route. Driving from Lokoja through Adavi to Okehi, Okene and Ajaokuta there was not a single check point either by the military, police, NSCDC or even FRSC! We got to Ganaja and were stuck!
“We were confronted by angry community youths who had made a barricade up to 1km on the Ajokuta -Lokoja road. There was a burn fire that was started after a bus carrying about 5 police officers who had guns on them turned back because they couldn’t withstand the violence!
“The youths immediately turned on us! They alleged that we called the police and that we were INEC staff. They were bent on taking us hostage, I was pushed, slapped, same as my colleagues. Those already in the cars were being dragged out but God came through for us!
“One of the youths came forward pleading with them to spare us gave us a 5 seconds chance for escape! How it happened I still cannot explain. At this time, youths with all kinds of weapons were coming from different directions towards us! God indeed came through for us
“Thank you all that kept calling and so many others that sent me sms. Particular appreciation to those who when they heard this kept calling every 30 mins to check up on me. To all my team members thank you for the cooperation. Please if you read this, help me say THANK YOU JESUS.
“It is not over because we are still here In Kogi. Until every one of my team members including the 50 observers we deployed are back home safe, please keep us in your prayers. We don’t have to die for the selfish ambition of another. Politicians when do you STOP?”
