The blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), led to panic as people fled in all directions, resulting in additional injuries from the chaos.
One eyewitness described the scene: “We were working at the market when we heard an explosion. There was confusion everywhere as people ran for their lives. Some people were killed in the explosion.” The witness also expressed fear, saying, “We are now living in fear as the relative peace in the area has been disrupted.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that two individuals, believed to be the attackers, died during the explosion. “It was an IED that exploded,” Okoye explained, adding that Anti-Bomb operatives had been deployed to the scene. He further stated that the two individuals who died were likely the ones responsible for setting up the bomb.
Okoye urged the public to remain calm, saying, “No cause for alarm, we request for peace and tranquility.” He also called on citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police and stay vigilant.
