The chairman of Igbo Etiti LGA in Enugu State has appointed two aides: Nwodo Everestus Ugonna as Senior Special Assistant on Garden Egg and Pepper, and Ezeugwu Frederick Ogbonna as Senior Special Assistant on Yam and Pepper.

Reactions have trailed the appointment of Senior Special Assistants on agriculture by the Executive Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Hon. Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo.

The chairman appointed two aides: Nwodo Everestus Ugonna as Senior Special Assistant on Garden Egg and Pepper, and Ezeugwu Frederick Ogbonna as Senior Special Assistant on Yam and Pepper.

While the appointments may seem ordinary, they have sparked widespread discussion, especially on social media.

The appointment letters, signed by the chairman, informed the appointees to report to the office of the executive chairman in Ogbede for briefing and deployment. For Nwodo, the letter read in part: “I am pleased to inform you that the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA has approved your appointment as SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT to the Local Government chairman on AGRICULTURE (GARDEN EGG & PEPPER).” Ezeugwu’s letter had similar wording: “I am pleased to inform you that the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA has approved your appointment as SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT to the Local Government chairman on AGRICULTURE (YAM & PEPPER).”

The chairman emphasized that these are temporary appointments, not civil service positions, and are held at his discretion. However, these details did little to stem the wave of reactions online.

Critics and commentators took to social media to express amusement and concern. Some questioned the necessity of such appointments, while others humorously speculated on what might come next. A user, @chykablessed, quipped, “Please, what of palm wine?”

Similarly, @Tochi__Queen joked, “Till I see ologhri akidi, the letter is yet to complete 🤣🤣.” Another, @quin_47, asked, “What about okpa?”

Others expressed disappointment and skepticism. @IamTheIroko lamented, “One day. Hopefully one day we will demand better of ourselves. Till that day.” Meanwhile, @pdauda criticized the redundancy of appointing two officials both tied to pepper: “Disappointed that they repeated pepper twice when I was expecting the other chap to get Yam and Red Oil portfolio instead….🤷.”

Anonymous comments continued in the same vein. One person remarked, “We will soon have special assistant on kolanut.” Another, Cornel, asked pointedly, “Could you please clarify what their responsibilities will be, Honorable?”

The widespread reactions highlight a mix of humor, frustration, and skepticism over the appointments, sparking broader discussions on governance priorities and public expectations.
