Certain food items should be avoided after you turn 50

While at age 50  and above,  there are foods that are beneficial and should be prioritised at this stage of life, there are also others that can become an obstacle to our health and should be avoided after your golden age.

Fried food

They are known for their taste and crunchy texture, but their high calorie and trans fat content make them an unhealthy option.

Refined sugar, flours

White bread, pasta, and refined rice lack fibre and quickly raise blood sugar levels. Switching to whole grain versions and increasing legume consumption can improve digestive and metabolic health.

Pastries and soft drink

These foods are full of empty calories and unhealthy fats. Reducing the consumption of such foods after 50 is essential to avoid issues like obesity and increased triglycerides.

Excessive  salt

Replacing salt with spices like cumin, garlic, or black pepper can add flavour to foods without risking our health when you turn 50 and should be avoided as much as possible.

Red meat

Red meat may be rich in protein, but contain saturated fats that affect cholesterol. It’s better to consume them sporadically and opt for lean meats, fish, or plant-based protein sources.

Dairy products

Dairy products are high in fat and can contribute to weight gain and metabolic issues and so, foods that contain dairy products should be avoided as much as possible after you turn 50. Choosing skimmed versions or plant-based alternatives is a good option.
