By Gideon Ayeni
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Senator John Azuta Mbata, the newly elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urging him to prioritize unity, peace, and progress for the Igbo people.
Peter Obi’s message of goodwill was conveyed in a statement released on Sunday, where he described Mbata’s election as a reflection of the trust and confidence reposed in him by the Ndigbo community. Obi also acknowledged other newly elected members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo executive, expressing optimism about their leadership.
“On behalf of my family and the Obidient movement, I congratulate the newly elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Azuta-Mbata; the Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi; the Secretary-General, Emeka Sibeudu; and other executive members on their emergence as leaders of this noble organization,” Obi stated.
He emphasized that their rise to leadership reaffirms the people’s faith in their ability to promote development within the South-East and across Nigeria.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, expressed hopes for a successful tenure for Mbata, urging the new leadership to harness their roles for the greater good of the nation.
“I pray they leverage their new offices to foster unity and peace and contribute significantly to generating ideas that will drive development, progress, and harmony,” he added.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo is the apex socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo people, and its leadership plays a crucial role in advocating for regional interests and national unity. Mbata’s election marks the beginning of a new chapter as stakeholders anticipate collaborative efforts toward peace and socio-economic growth.
