Mojisola Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has resigned from her position, paving the way for Mudashiru Obasa to return as Speaker—GWG.ng reports.

Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency I, announced her resignation during a plenary session on Monday, stating that her decision was in deference to party directives.

“I am not a quitter,” she declared before the 40-member Assembly, reaffirming her commitment to public service despite stepping down.

Following her resignation, Meranda was immediately re-elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Obasa, who was previously removed from office, has now reclaimed his position as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.

GWG.ng reports that Erstwhile speaker of the Lagos State House of Assemby representing Agege Constituency I, Mudashiru Obasa, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa was re-elected on Monday after the resignation of Mojisola Meranda who stepped down as the Speaker of the House.

Obasa’s re-election followed the nomination of a former Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1.

GWG.ng reports that the lawmakers had sacked Obasa last January and had as recent as a week ago vowed not to reinstate him despite pressures from alleged foot soldiers of President Bola Tinubu.
