Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has claimed that plans are in motion to arrest her as soon as she arrives in Abuja.

Speaking in an interview with Premium Times on Sunday, Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that she had been informed of the alleged plot to arrest her following her controversial attendance at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in New York, despite not being an official delegate of the Nigerian government.

“I’m aware there are plans underway to have me arrested as soon as I arrive in Abuja,” Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.

The embattled senator, who has been vocal about her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, further alleged that Nigerian officials attempted to forcibly remove her from the United Nations premises after she delivered her speech at the IPU event.

According to her, “The Senate President Akpabio sent three staff members, led by the Chargé D’Affaires of the Nigerian embassy in New York, to evacuate me from the United Nations premises right after my speech. I was rescued by parliamentarians from other countries and security personnel.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan defended her presence at the event despite her suspension from the Senate, explaining that she registered independently as a senator, secured a pass, and personally funded her trip.

“The suspension does not remove my legitimacy as a senator. I attended the same programme last year and was already on the mailing list. After I got a pass, I bought my own ticket and funded my trip and participation at the event,” she stated.

As of now, neither the Nigerian government nor the Senate President has issued an official response to her allegations.
