Insecurity: South West Governors, Traditional Rulers, Others Meet In Ibadan

South West governors and some first class traditional rulers in the zone have met in Ibadan, Oyo, to address the security challenges in the region and other parts of the country.

The meeting which started at about 3 pm on Saturday held at the executive chamber, office of the governor, state secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan.

In attendance for the meeting were Dr Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Mr Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Mr Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) and the host governor, Mr Seyi Makinde (Oyo).

Among the traditional rulers at the meeting were the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Fedrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Olugbon of Orilegbon, Oba Francis Alao.

The Deputy Inpector-General of Police, in charge of  South West, Mr David Folawuyo, Oyo State Commissioner of Police Ngozi Onadeko and other heads of security agencies in Oyo state were also in attendance.

GreenWhiteGreen, GWG gathered that the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu and the Director-General of the DSS, Mr Yusuf Bishi couldn’t make the journey to attend the meeting due to bad weather.

It was expected that the chairman of the Southwest governors’ forum Gov. Akeredolu would brief newsmen at the end of the meeting.

Unconfirmed sources hinted that the IGP and DG DSS are expected to make an on-the-spot assessment of the Shasha scene, Akinyele local government where a recent crisis broke out.

Recall that four northern governors last week visited Governor Makinde in a bid to tame the crisis that almost turned tribal.
