2023 Presidency: APC Speaks On Buhari And Third Term

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that there are plans by President Muhammadu Buhari to stay in power beyond 2023.

The major ruling party had recently alleged that there are plans by Buhari to maintain his hold on power after his tenure elapses in 2023.

Reacting to the allegation, the ruling party said the president had no plan to perpetuate himself in power, adding the Buhari was not former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who sought to tinker with the constitution to actualise his third term ambition.

In the dying days of his second term, Obasanjo was widely reported to have made attempts to change the constitutionally term limit to elongate his stay in office. To achieve this, he was said to have bribed federal lawmakers to do his bidding.

The former head of state had repeatedly denied the allegation.

APC said it’s an organised and disciplined party, adding that it would unveil a consensus and agreeable presidential candidate that will fly its flag in 2023 at the appropriate time.

In a statement by John Akpanudoehede, National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), APC said PDP was troubled by its past.

The APC scribe, however, stressed that the party would not allow individual ambitions to sabotage Buhari’s regime, ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.

Akpanudoedehe said APC would shock the major opposition party with the outcome of its planned congresses scheduled to commence on July 31.

“After our congresses and the national convention, we will shock them (PDP) by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023.

“APC has no third term agenda like PDP. What we are doing now is to stabilise the party and not allow individual ambitions to derail President Buhari’s administration,” he said.
