Eight out of 14 governors in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are backing the embattled national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, against the onslaught on him allegedly masterminded by his one-time benefactor, Governor Nyesom Wike.

The Nation reports that two other PDP governors are with Wike in the move to remove Secondus while three governors are sitting in the fence as troubleshooters

Besides getting the support of the majority of the PDP governors, Secondus is also reported to have pulled in the support of some influential former governors and past national officers of the party.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the crisis in the party became messier on Tuesday after seven national officers in the deputies category resigned. That resignation was further compounded by the notice by a member of the National Working Committee, NWC, and National Youth Leader, Hon Udo Okoye who gave Secondus a three day notice to resign otherwise, he would leave his position.

The governors said to be backing Secondus include Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) and Godwin Obaseki (Edo). Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau (Zamfara) is also with him.

The PDP governors opposed to Secondus are Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and  Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa).

Governors Aminu Tambuwal ( Sokoto), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom) are those said to be on the fence.

Ortom and Tambuwal are said to be working as peace facilitators.

Secondus according to the report has also reached out to Senator Ahmed Makarfi and ex-Governor Ibrahim Shema (Katsina). Makarfi and Shema who are former governors were also respectively national chairman and deputy national chairman of the party at different times.

Secondus has also launched a counter offensive with a chorus that the seven deputy national officers who resigned on Tuesday should go.

The Nation quoted a source who said: “The NWC has launched a counter-attack against the seven rebels. It has decided to replace them immediately.

“Although they appeared before the NWC and clarified that they only gave a 30-day notice to resign, the NWC insisted that since their exit was already in the public domain, the seven officers must go.”
