Plateau reinstated speaker

Political tendencies on the plateau were on Monday morning heading for a showdown following the entry of Speaker Abok Ayuba and his supporters into the premises of the Plateau House of Assembly.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that Speaker Ayuba who was last Thursday, October 28, 2021, removed from office by seven members of the House after they were shepherded into the legislative complex by heavily armed security men from the Government House in a pre-dawn session.

Supporters of the Speaker in the majority were disallowed from entering the legislative complex.

In a riposte, Speaker Ayuba and 11 other members of the 24 member House of Assembly convened a session that took place at Zawan Community Hall in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

At that session, six of the members of the Plateau House of Assembly alleged to have played prominent roles in the fracas earlier in the morning were suspended.

The decision of the Ayuba led majority to enter the House of Assembly complex on Monday morning came as a shock to stakeholders on the plateau. As at press time, no definitive action had been taken and  GreenWhiteGreen GWG is unable to confirm the intention of the lawmakers.

It was gathered that the pro Ayuba legislators who are in majority and comprising Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress, APC lawmakers were heralded by militant youths into the legislative complex.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG further reports that Governor Simon Lalong has denied involvement in the crisis in the House of Assembly. However, few believe his assertion.
