Four Ways To Identify Scam Job Invitation

At a time when it is difficult to get a job in Nigeria, the chance of getting a fake or scam job interview invitation is high, especially if you are a fresh graduate in Nigeria who recently completed the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC programme.  Here are four ways you can identify a fake job interview.  

Go to Jobsite:

 One way for you to know whether the organisation exists or not is to  do a background search on the organisation on the job sites you usually apply for to see if the organisation comes up. I also know that platforms like Jobberman when you receive interview invites you can either call or reach out to them via email or social media to verify if the organisation exists in their database especially if you applied for the job through the platform.

 Check LinkedIn

If you get the invitation by email, and you can’t find the invitee’s name via Linked there are chances the individual is not a genuine career recruiter and does not care about their career brand; hence why would they care about yours.

Asks for money  

It is ethically wrong in Nigeria and globally to pay anyone to get employed whether it is the company hiring or a recruitment consultant doing it on behalf of the company. If your prospective interviewer or employer is requesting any payment from you, it is highly a scam job, run.

Use Google:

Google is the world’s number one search engine, and if the job you are being invited to has any traces of the company name or the invitee HR manager, I advise you to do a quick google search. You will surely find something positive or not, but if you don’t, please dig deeper.
