When’re You Having Babies? Reasons You Shouldn’t Ask Couple This Question

Published

on

Whether jokingly or seriously, newlywed couples are asked the question of “when are you having babies?”. Whether you have asked such a question before, intending to, or have never done so, here are some reasons you shouldn’t ask this question.

Infertility

Some couples might be dealing with infertility problems, probably from the husband and/or wife’s end. Asking this question is like piercing their wounds. It is advisable to leave them to deal with their life situation alone except they approach you for advice.

Abortion

It is not unusual for couples to have abortions. This could be a joint decision by the husband and wife probably because they are not mentally or financially ready to cater for a child at the time.

Miscarriages

A woman may experience miscarriage and could be in a mourning mood blaming her village people and the witch next door for her predicament. Although most of the time, there are medical explanations for miscarriages, asking them when they will be having kids would sound like you are mocking them.

Reproductive Health Issues

Some women may suffer an imbalance in their body pH level and this may prevent sperm survival in their fallopian tube; thus the inability to reach the egg to fertilise it.

Likewise, it is possible that the man is the one experiencing low sperm count.

Abusive Relationships

Women experiencing abusive relationships may want to hold on with getting pregnant. They want to be sure if the marriage is really what they want or find their square root.

Asking them “when are you having babies?” can be annoying and frustrating at the same time. Except you are the mother or father-in-law.
