Speculations are mounting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State after Governor Udom Emmanuel wielded the big stick in sacking the commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Uduak Udo-Inyang and suspended Dr. Valentine Attah as chairman of the Local Government Commission.

The move is coming against the background of the recent clampdown on political appointees from granting media interviews. The media clampdown came after the powerful commissioner for works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen reportedly crossed the border line when he accused elders of the governor’s Eket Senatorial District of being against the development of the region.

The sack of Udo-Inyang as commissioner for agriculture and suspension of Attah came through two different press statements issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem.

It was learned that the governor could further wield the big stick bringing a state of unease among political office holders in the state.

Udo-Inyang who joined the cabinet less than two years ago was said to have been a quiet and not too visible operative of government thus bringing shock as to the reason of his sack.

A government official asked for the reason said:
“The governor is the captain of Team Akwa Ibom and like a football coach can make changes anytime to improve the team.”

Dr Attah was, however, suspended following his indictment in the illegal recruitment of persons into the local governments.

In suspending him, the SSG said Attah’s suspension “takes immediate effect, pending the outcome of the State audit on the recruitment exercise.

“Appointments of those who benefited from the said recruitment are hereby declared null and void”, the statement added
