Removed Sanusi as emir of Kano

By Olasupo Giwa

The emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi was conspicuously absent on Wednesday as the man who cut his kingdom to a fifth of its former size took the oath office as governor of Kano State for a second term.

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje in his inaugural address at the Sani Abacha Stadium defended the decision saying that the creation of four emirates out of Kano was done to spread development across the state.

The seat reserved for the emir of Kano was conspicuously absent until another royal father was beckoned to occupy the seat as the inauguration ceremony progressed.

No reason was given for the absence of the emir.

Though some cited security reasons, others, however, debunked it saying that it could not have been far from the crisis between the governor and the emir.

“It cannot be for any other reason than the crisis between the two of them and that is what his absence has shown,” an informed source at the ceremony claimed.

The newly enthroned emirs of Gaya, Bichi, Rano and Karaye were fully present at the ceremony that would have seen Emir Sanusi take the same stage with men who were a month ago his subjects.
