Senator Rochas Okorocha has accused Rep. Emeka Nwajiuba of name dropping saying that the legislator’s failed bid for the speakership of the 9th House of Representatives was built on delusion.

Okorocha spoke in reaction to alleged claims by Nwajiuba that Senator Okorocha caused the Southeast to lose the speakership of the House of Representatives.

He spoke against the well-known claim of a close relationship between Nwajiuba and President Muhammadu Buhari and claims that the president backed Nwajiuba’s aspiration even if he came to the House of Representatives on the platform of Accord, a political party.

Nwajiuba was the deputy chairman of the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network, the group which bought the N45 million presidential nomination form for Buhari and is believed to be strong to the president.

Even more, Nwajiuba was believed to have been the candidate of a faction of the Buhari inner caucus that also includes Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

Chike Okafor was all smiles before

Nwajiuba had lost the ticket of the APC for Okigwe South Federal to Okorocha’s strong ally, Chike Okafor upon which he defected to Accord upon which platform he contested the House of Representatives election. Though the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Okafor as the winner of the election, a court on May 14 declared Nwajiuba as the winner of the election, an order that was promptly obeyed by INEC.

The court order inevitably put to rest Okafor’s aspiration to be speaker and Nwajiuba was immediately revved for the position.

He has, however, blamed his slow momentum to his late entry into the contest.

Dismissing the insinuation, Senator Okorocha in a statement on Monday fired at Nwajiuba.

In the statement issued by his spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo, the former governor of the state said that Nwajiuba had been involved in name dropping in his past electoral quests.

“And the handsome and vibrant young man has continued with that style. He also adopted the same style for the 2019 politics with regard to APC. He later went to Court and got Judgement with the ticket of Accord Party. And the man who won the election for that Federal Constituency on the ticket of APC was Hon Chike Okafor, a man loved by his people.

“And if the election is Conducted twenty times for that Constituency Hon. Okafor would continue to win. You do not detach yourself from your people and expect them to vote for you on the day of election.

Emeka Nwajiuba when he took over the mandate

“And amazingly too, the moment Hon. Nwajiuba got the Court Judgement, he visited the Villa and smartly took photograph with the President. The next story was that the President had adopted him for the Speakership of the House of Representatives. And those not familiar with his antics believed him. But to some of us, he was on a familiar train.

“It would have been unimaginable to believe that the President would adopt a member of Accord Party for such position no matter the relationship and even when his matter is at the Appeal Court. So, accusing Rochas Okorocha of being behind his failure to succeed with his name-dropping strategy this time, was just a cover up.

“It is also thought-provoking that any Politician from Imo these days whose wife has miscarriage would blame Okorocha. Yet, they find it very difficult to believe that this man called Rochas Okorocha, by the grace of God, is an enigma.”
