A 300-level medical laboratory student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), simply identified as Christabel Buoro allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday.

The dead student was said to have killed herself after lacing some quantity of Sprite drink with the deadly pesticide, Sniper in her off-campus residence sometime on Tuesday.

Though she left a suicide note asking two associates to reconcile themselves, details of the suicide note she left behind could not be reached as at press time.

The lifeless body was said to have been discovered in her apartment at the Newton hostel at Ekosodin village adjoining the main campus of the university. Friends were said to have been worried about their inability to reach her on phone. They subsequently broke into her apartment to find her lifeless body.

The content of the suicide note could not be ascertained but reports had it that she wanted the two unknown persons to resolve a lingering issue.

A source revealed to GWG that Christabel committed suicide as a result of lingering unresolved personal issues, which have affected her psychological state of mind for a very long time.

The source dismissed insinuations that she committed suicide as a result of her broken relationship with her boyfriend.

Her body had been reportedly deposited in an unknown morgue.

The source noted that her psychological problem started in 100level when she was reportedly raped by a boy, leading her to a state of depression.

When GWG visited the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Benin, early on Wednesday, some of her course mates were seen in black attire mourning her death. Plans are being made to organize a procession service in her memory by the executive of the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students Association, UNIBEN CHAPTER.

However, when the UNIBEN Public Relations Officer, Mr. Michael Osasuyi was contacted, he stated that the university will make a press statement when the full brief of the incident is ascertained by the university management.
