Sale Of Beef Banned In Ondo After Another Thunder Strike

Selling of beef in four Local Government Areas of Ondo State in the Akoko area has been suspended following another mysterious striking down of eight cows by thunder.

The ban on the sale of beef followed reports that the herdsmen herding the cows had butchered the dead meat in parts for the purpose of selling them to butchers to sell to the public.

The development in Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area a similar situation when a thunder strike led to the death of 30 cows on a mountain at Ijare, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

The herdsmen it was learnt had unlike the previous incident plotted to conceal the incident to enable them sell off the dead cow meat to unsuspecting members of the public.

However, their plot unraveled leading to the intervention of government officials including environmental health officials who promptly placed a ban on the sale of cow meat in the area.

Mrs. Yemisi Adeniyi who is the Director of Environmental Health Services in Akoko North-East Local Government, disclosed that officials had since arrested some butchers who were suspected of having sold some of the dead meat.
