The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna on Wednesday sacked Sen. Dayo Adeyeye of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and declared Senator Biodun Olujimi of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of Ekiti South Senatorial Election held on February 23.

Justice Uzor Anyanwu who delivered the ruling, affirmed the judgment of the tribunal which set aside the the result of the election which gave victory to Adeyeye.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Adeyeye, who ran on the platform of the ruling APC as winner of the National Assembly election, the result which Olujimi challenged at the Election Petition Tribunal.

While the tribunal declared Olujimi winner of the senatorial election, Adeyeye rejected the ruling and used the last opportunity to appeal.

Adeyeye remarkably was until a year before the election, a member of the PDP and was the spokesman of the party. His unsuccessful bid for the PDP’s governorship ticket compelled him to move to the APC which offered him its Senate ticket after he combined forces with APC stakeholders to frustrate Gov Ayodele Fayose’s bid to enable his planned succession.
