A plan to honour Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano among other notable personalities with Excellent Leadership award has split the Women’s Wing of the Christian Council of Nigeria, WOWICCN in Anambra State with four churches withdrawing from the programme.

Mrs. Obiano, wife of the governor of Anambra State is, however, not directly involved in the crisis which has now smeared preparations for the 90th anniversary of the council scheduled for Saturday.

The four churches which dissociated themselves from the programme through a statement by their representatives include Rt. Rev. Livinus Onuagha, Head Methodist Church Onitsha/ Vice Chairman, CCN Anambra State, Major Okpala Ihedi , Head Salvation Army /Secretary CCN, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. S.K.Ihranacho , Head of Presbyterian Church, and Rev Moshood Ojurongbe, Head of Baptist Convention.

They said that WOWICCN, in Anambra State has a pending court matter over the election of the state women wing Chairman.

“The statement read : “It has come to the attention of Member-Church in CCN Anambra State, through various bill boards and fliers advertising a purported convention to be hosted by the Chairperson and the entire women’s wing of Christian Council of Nigeria to mark the 90th anniversary of CCN, scheduled to hold on Saturday November 16th 2019 at St Luke’s Anglican Church Okpoko.

“During the program, the organizers intends to give out “award of excellent leadership to some notable personalities, especially Her Excellency Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano.

” We wish to state clearly that the proposed convention is a sham, illegal and an avenue to extort benefits from unsuspecting members of the public”

Addressing journalists in Onitsha, Vice Chairman of CCN, Anambra State Chapter and Bishop, Methodist Church Nigeria, Onitsha, Rt. Rev. Livinus Onuagha said all efforts to amicably resolve the matter failed.

“There was hijacking of WOWICCN electoral process which led to the suspension of the purported election and a directive by the national body that fresh elections be conducted according to our procedure.

“This hijacked electoral process is now the subject of a court case in Suit No.0/150/ 2019 before Hon. Justice D.A Onyefulu in the High Court of Onitsha where in CCN is named as one of the Defendants.
