How Arsenal’s Relegation Will Affect Premiership Soccer

Degraded, diminished, reduced, woeful, awful, disappointing, horrendous, are among words that have been used to describe Arsenal’s performances this season.

Another loss to Chelsea in the London derby compounded to the woes of the Gunners last weekend. It also meant that they are just six points adrift of the relegation zone. Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta has a huge job on his hands. He could possibly be chewing more than he can swallow at the moment.

It could get worse when they take on Manchester United in the New Year day fixture.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side are in good shape to defeat the Gunners. Both teams settled for a 1-1 draw during the first leg at Old Trafford. The Red Devils look gallant after a 2-0 win over Burnley in their last game.

Nevertheless, the next set of games could finally hit the nail on the head and get Arsenal relegated for the very first time.

A change of manager hasn’t really changed the situation of things. Arteta’s side haven’t won a game since he took over from the caretaker coach Freddie Ljunberg. It is too early to start putting pressure on the new boss as he is still getting used to the kind of players he has on board.

There are also plans to buy more players to foster the development of the team.

During the Chelsea game, Arsenal were looking like the more serious team until they switched off when Chelsea repaired the breach that Arsenal was exploiting through the off-form Emerson.

Repetitive display of such incompetence could just gun down the Gunners to the second rung of English Football. Relegation would not alter the shape or structure of the game.
