Tension In Middle East As U.S. Takes Out Iranian General In Bagdad

General Qasem Soleimani, The head of Iran’s Quds Forces, an elite wing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has been killed in a strike allegedly linked to the United States.

He is reputed to be about the second most powerful person in Iran.

He was killed near the Bagdad airport minutes after he arrived the Iraqi capital for an undisclosed mission. He was killed in a vehicle alongside a key Iraqi militia leader, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

United States media allege that he had for long been on the radar of the United States following his alleged links to several deaths suffered by the United States in the Middle East. He was believed to be directly controlling the attacks against the United States Embassy in Bagdad.

The impact of the assassination was being likened to the killing of Osama Bin Laden.  

Col. Oliver North (rtd.) told Fox News in an interview monitored by GWG that Soleimani had killed more Americans than

“If we get Soleimani then we reduce dramatically the threat to American lives.”

The strike follows days of protest at the US embassy which was quelled following superior demonstration of force by US marines.

US forces in the Middle East are now said to be on the state of high alert in the first direct attack by the Donald Trump administration against a senior Iranian official.

General Soleimani it was learnt is one of the most connected officials in the Iranian regime but has always operated in the background and is known to have granted only one interview.

Iran is yet to respond to the development.
