Two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State and two-term minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State has said that he is not a politician.

The minister made the declaration on Channels Television on Monday morning as he also warned the rich and the government that insecurity will not abate so long as the rich do not find legitimate means of livelihood for the poor in the country.

As the interview session that was focused on the achievements of the Buhari administration in the transportation sector drew to an end the minister was asked on the state of affairs in the Rivers State chapter of the APC and his relationship with Senator Magnus Abe, his former political associate.

Responding, he said:

“I am not a politician. I don’t know if you know me too well, one impression I like to leave with especially those I mentor is I am an honest Nigerian, that I won’t betray my friends and that I will do the best that I can to salvage the country. That is enough and that doesn’t make me a politician.

Challenged on his membership of the APC, the minister said: “ that still doesn’t make me a politician.”

Asked of his views on the security situation in the country, the minister said:
“I said it when I was a governor and I am still saying it now, I am saying it that you have insecurity not because those guys want to be criminals, they are criminals because they are looking for livelihood.

“When I was a governor I said it and I repeat it here, if the government and the ruling class refuse to provide legitimate means of livelihood for the poor, the poor will provide for themselves illegitimate means of livelihood and the rich won’t sleep.”
